The Charlotte 49ers athletic program operates within the perspective of the overall educational program of UNC Charlotte. With a balanced program that supports equitable opportunities for all students and staff, the department promotes a total person concept that prepares its student-athletes with the necessary tools to be successful in academic, athletic and social settings.
The Department of Athletics supports the highest ideals of sportsmanship and is committed to the highest ethical standards of the University, Conference USA and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
This past year, we experienced significant financial challenges as a result of expenses required to protect our student-athletes, staff, and facilities during the ongoing pandemic as well as additional expenses needed to travel safely to competitions.
Our student-athletes were faced with their own challenges when spring sport seasons were halted and many of our fall sports were postponed to the spring of 2021.
Despite this, our student-athletes remained resilient and admirably faced the challenges that were presented. They excelled in the classroom posting a 3.448 fall 2020 semester departmental GPA with 100% of teams earning a 3.0 or better team GPA. They were and continue to be winners on and off the fields and courts of play with women’s basketball reaching the postseason WNIT, men’s cross country participating in the NCAA Championships, and football DE Tyriq Harris named a finalist for the NFF William V. Campbell Trophy (Scholar-Athlete) and a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy (Community Servant). They have truly exemplified what it means to be the #GoldStandard.
This year presents an even greater need. We hope you will join us during #NinerNationGives to support our 400+ male and female student-athletes by selecting one of the areas of need below.
